Education Action Team (EAT)
The purpose of the Education Action Team is to:
Work toward justice and equity for all marginalized students
Foster advocacy and activism in education in Arvada
Build equity and diversity in Arvada schools for students and families specifically in Arvada
Create a more inclusive and anti-racist curriculum through trusting relationships and targeted action
EAT will accomplish our purpose by:
Recognizing and elevating marginalized student and staff voices
Educating staff and leadership teams on equitable access to curriculum
Ensuring that marginalized voices have a seat at the table
Confronting racism and bias in our schools
Creating curriculum that accurately reflects our history, while representing students and our community
Current Projects:
Arvada area high schools support and relationship building
1-on-1 conversations and surveys with community stakeholders
Letter writing
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) training and anti-racist curriculum
Building inclusivity and diversity in Arvada schools (supporting marginalized students)
State legislation (HB20-1295, revise existing state statute, budget, etc.)
Member Commitments & Expectations:
Members are encouraged to:
Attend EAT meetings once a month (currently the third Thursday of each month)
Keep up with team communications:
Emails
Monthly meeting agenda/minutes documents, where members continue posting updates until the next month’s agenda is sent out
ASJ Slack Workspace
Participate in the team’s ongoing projects as available and per interest/connections
Take turns representing the EAT at ASJ general meetings
